Photography

This specialist course will be delivered in our new purpose-built art studio and will allow students to explore a range of digital and traditional photographic techniques and processes.

Students will be given the opportunity to investigate and respond to a variety of historical and contemporary sources through different lens-based media including photoshop and dark room development. Pupils will develop and expand their creative skills to produce a professional portfolio containing a large body of work, responding to a range of contextual sources and influences.

Year 9

Learning outcomes

In Year 9, pupils will be introduced to the basic principles of photography including formal elements and composition. They will build a base knowledge of key vocabulary as well as traditional and contemporary photographic techniques to generate personal outcomes.

Year 10

Learning outcomes As pupils progress into Year 10, they will continue to develop their subject language in order to investigate and evaluate a range of contextual sources. As they work towards producing their sustained project, they will experiment with a variety of techniques and processes in order to develop and expand their own creative ideas towards individual outcomes.

Year 11

Learning outcomes

Pupils begin Year 11 with the project Renewal & Decay, where they will explore the concept of the ephemeral through a variety of techniques including décollage and image manipulation. They will use artist influence and experimentation to produce individual outcomes with messages and meaning.

From January, pupils begin preparation for their externally set assignment, each responding to a topic set by the examination board. During a 10-week preparation period, pupils will produce a body of work including investigations and experimentation using a range of relevant sources, resulting in a 10-hour exam.
