French - A level

Year 12

Learning outcomes

Students will follow the Edexcel A Level course for French which aims to broaden and widen students’ understanding of the French language, the countries in which it is spoken and the modern-day and historical events which have shaped and continue to shape the Francophone world. Students will perfect their knowledge and application of more sophisticated language and use this to accurately translate, communicate and understand a range of information from a variety of sources.

Year 13

Learning outcomes

Students will have the opportunity to explore, review and critique artistic works in French. Following an in-depth study of a French film and book, students will explain ideas and explore the factors governing the works of established Directors and Authors. Students will develop resilience, confidence and responsibility by independently researching a topic of interest linked to A-Level study and preparing a short presentation on the theme.

Learning a foreign language helps to open up many new opportunities including travelling to other countries. At A Level, the course includes a lot more focus on current cultural events as well as the language which deepens your understanding.
