Curriculum overview

Key Stage 3 - Years 7 and 8

In Key Stage 3, students are taught in ability groups for the majority of subjects. Students receive extra support if they have particular weaknesses in literacy and numeracy. The curriculum consists of subjects over a 50 lesson two week timetable and each lesson lasts for one hour.

In Year 7, students follow a bespoke curriculum called ‘Enquire’. This involves an enquiry based learning approach with a literacy and numeracy focus.

In Year 8, students also follow a bespoke enrichment curriculum, called ‘Enrich’. Students opt into three pathways across the year from the following areas: art, computer science, music, performing arts, PE and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

All students in Years 7 and 8 have two reading lessons per fortnight named ERIC (everyone reads in class).

Students continue with the curriculum below until they make their Key Stage 4 option choices in April of Year 8.
