The North East Learning Trust is seeing to employ a caretaker based at Ashington Academy. The individual will be responsible to the facilities manager for the daily operation of facilities at both sites managing a team of staff to deliver a safe, effective learning environment for all. Providing support to the facilities manager to ensure the school site and buildings are properly maintained and fully compliant.
We are looking to appoint a new caretaker who is an enthusiastic, trustworthy and self-motivated person and who will play a key role in the effective operation, maintenance and compliance of Ashington Academy to ensure a welcoming and safe environment for students, staff and visitors.
Applicants should have:
- Proven experience in caretaking or a closely related role.
- Trade skills sufficient for carrying out minor repairs and maintenance.
- Knowledge of facilities related Health and Safety legislation and risk assessment processes.
- Good communication skills with both adults and children and basic IT skills.
- The ability to motivate self and others to deliver high quality outcomes.
- Applicants should have access to their own transport as this role may involve occasional travel to other trust sites
Main duties:
- To ensure NELT Northumberland Schools are well presented and maintained to a high standard
- Ensure the site is accessible and ready for use at agreed times and that the security of the site is properly maintained
- Advise the Facilities Manager of repair and maintenance issues, undertaking minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks as required
- Ensure that the heating system is operated and maintained in the approved manner
- Operate and maintain all ancillary plant and equipment as appropriate
- Ensure Health and Safety procedures are adhered to, carrying out relevant tasks to ensure compliance
- Ensure that the external areas of the property are kept free of litter and debris, rubbish bins are emptied regularly and main access routes are kept clear of debris, snow and ice, as necessary
- Undertake a range of general porterage duties, ensuring goods, equipment, furniture and other items are transported around the property, as required
- Ensure the site is accessible for community use and lettings, as directed by the Facilities Manager
- Transport students in the school minibus, as required
- Record meter readings
- Ensure stocks levels of necessary facilities equipment are monitored and maintained
