Macbeth play

Well done to all the students who have been working hard on their latest production.

The students here at Ashington Academy are always keen to tackle a challenge. After their reimagining of Romeo and Juliet in 2018, the idea of tackling another Shakespeare play was so enticing that they decided Macbeth would be their latest project.

Students decided to adapt the script to make it more accessible to a modern audience by setting the show in America, using presidents rather than kings. This also led to an interesting thought that Macbeth could, in fact, be female. From this, a concept of gender swapping the majority of characters arose, witches became warlocks, Fleance became Flo and Lady Macbeth became Vincent Macbeth.

Alexander Carr, Performing Arts Subject Leader said: "The cast, band, and crew have once again, been nothing short of amazing and inspirational. The dedication they show in pulling a production together shows their passion for the performing arts, without which none of this would be possible."

Well done on a fantastic production!
