Ashington Academy students are celebrating today after receiving a brilliant set of GCSE results, marking further improvements for our school.

Among our top performers include high-flyer, Emily Berkeley, who achieved an incredible full set of Grade 9s – the highest grade attributed to a small percentage of students. Emily’s nine Grade 9s is one of the best set of results Ashington Academy has ever seen. Emily is now planning a return to our sixth form, NE6, to continue her studies alongside Sophie French who did exceptionally well with four Grade 9s, four 8s and one Grade 7 and Maddison Dodds who achieved an impressive four Grade 9s, three 8s and two 7s.

Beccy Smith and Cole Boon are also set to return to NE6 in September to study their A levels as Beccy achieved four Grade 9s, one Grade 8 and four Grade 7s and Cole was awarded four Grade 9s, two 8s, one Grade 7, one Grade 5. Liam Allen is also celebrating a great set of results with five Grade 9s, one 8 and two 7s and is heading to Newcastle College to study engineering.

Our Head of School, Yvonne Weston, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be celebrating with our Year 11 students today - we are incredibly proud of their hard work and the commitment they have shown over the past five years and this is reflected in a brilliant set of GCSE results. We wish everyone the best of luck in their next steps and we look forward to welcoming many students back to our sixth form, NE6, in September.

“Since joining the North East Learning Trust in 2017, our school has been on a programme of rapid improvement. We have many improvements in the pipeline and we look forward to building on this success as we move forward.”
