Here's what some of our student ambassadors have to say about the clubs they run...
Rugby club
"The Ashington Academy Rugby Club is run by leaders from the Newcastle Falcons. The rugby club is open for boys and girls from all year groups. At rugby club, you participate in skill-based games to improve your skills, which are then applied in matches. During the games, the coaches will help develop your skills by correcting anything you get wrong and supporting you to be your best. The club is after school on a Wednesday 3:00 - 4:00 pm. Please come and join us!" Joey, Sports Ambassador, Year 10
Creative writing
"I participate in creative writing club because I have always had a real passion for reading and telling stories. Recently, we have been looking at national and international writing competitions and selecting those we are going to enter. I highly recommend coming along: it offers a fun opportunity to make up stories and improve your writing skills!"
Lorien, Academic Ambassador, Year 10
Hockey club
"Hockey club has been great fun over the last few weeks with lots of students coming along to try something new! Some students have even gone along to try out Morpeth Hockey Club, which is just fantastic! We have all year groups from 7-13 working together and helping each other learn a game that is new to everyone. It is great fun and enjoyable; it’s also a time to have a break from doing homework. It’s also a great opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people. So, please, come along to hockey club and give it a try!" Jessica , Sports Ambassador, Year 11
Quiet Reading I
"I participate in reading club because I love to read and it is a nice, relaxed place to go on any lunchtime and get lost in a good book quietly. I find this very relaxing and look forward to going and reading new books."
Lorien, Academic Ambassador, Year 10
Multi-Sports
"At multi-sports club, we offer a wide range of fun sports with plenty of opportunities to laugh and make memories. Anyone is welcome and everyone is capable: come along and have fun!"
Lewis, Sports Ambassador, Year 10
Art Club
"In art club, we take part in a range of different activities each week. So far, we have made bookmarks and some Year 7s have entered the local Christmas lights competition. Even though there are a range of activities to enjoy, you can come along to further develop your artwork from your lessons or your own personal work! If you are unsure or need help, you can ask Mrs Piddock, who runs the club, or any of the other ambassadors who are very happy to help with anything you need. Come and join us!" Rebecca, Creative Ambassador, Year 10
Homework
"I attend homework club because it is a quiet place to do your homework and receive help from your teachers and peers. Ambassadors also attend and support with different tasks, as well as the teachers. It provides a supportive environment to do your homework and organise your school life, so I would definitely recommend coming along! Lorien, Academic Ambassador, Year 10
Girls’ football
"At Ashington Academy we have a range of opportunities for everyone including a girls' football team after school. Currently, the team is comprised of girls who are committed to coming every week and who want to learn and get better at the sport. The football is coached by students who are experienced in football and want to teach and enthuse others. Whether you're new to the sport or play for a club outside of school, please come and join us for some fun afterschool every Thursday!" Lucy, Sports Ambassador, Year 10
