The Year 7 boys' sporthall athletics team have beat 5 other qualifying schools to become County Champions 2023!

It was an absolute privilege to attend the County Finals with the determined Year 7 boys team, made up of Harry, Aiden, Jamie, Oliver, Nathan, Jake and William. All students involved made terrific contribution towards the overall success!

The relay team, Aiden, Jamie, Oliver and Will, kicked things off with a 1st place victory in the 4 x 1 lap race.

Harry and Will stepped up to the field events and both put in a great performance in the vertical jump - both scoring over 30cm.

Jamie and Jake were ready to revisit the speed bounce after their amazing effort during qualifiers and they did not disappoint. Jake scored 64 jumps in 30 seconds and Jamie 68!

Next in the field was Nathan and Harry with three attempts at throwing the shot putt. The competition was tough but both performers threw well, and Nathan cleared a huge 6.5m.

Standing long jump and standing triple jump came last with Aiden, Will and Oliver all participating. Transferring all the power they could muster, each completed some outstanding distances putting the other competing school under some serious pressure.

During the afternoon session the boys were back to the track events to finish the competition. There were some top performances across all distances, well done to Harry, Nathan and Jake who all competed in the longer distance events. As for short distance events, we came away with three 1st place finishes in the 2 lap (Will and Oliver), 8 lap (Jamie and Aiden) and 4 x 2 lap races.

At the end of the day, Ashington Academy were announced as County Champions! What an outstanding achievement boys!
