As part of our National Apprenticeship Week celebrations, we were joined by over 20 local business professionals from a range of industries across the region, who generously volunteered their time and expertise to conduct mock interviews with all of our Year 10 students!

Our students have been working hard over the past couple of weeks in preparation for this excellent opportunity to participate in the 10-15 minute 1:1 interviews and as a result, were able to represent themselves in an incredibly mature and professional manner in the interview scenarios. Our students were an absolute credit to themselves and our academy, and their fantastic responses to challenging  questions such as 'what is your greatest strength?' and 'what is your biggest weakness?' as well as 'where do you see yourself in 5 years time?' really impressed the interviewers!

Every student received immediate feedback following their interviews and now have an excellent understanding of how they can develop their answers even further, in preparation for future interviews. We are so grateful to the many colleagues who joined us for this event from the following organisations:

  • Concentrix + Webhelp
  • Newcastle Building Society
  • Vital Energy
  • Omega Physio

  • Department of Work and Pensions

  • JP Morgan Chase

  • Advance Northumberland

  • North East Local Enterprise Programme
  • Northumbrian Water Group
  • Newcastle University
  • Visuna
  • ORE Catapult

Feedback from our interviewers has been absolutely brilliant and includes comments such as:

'Students were brilliant. Well prepared and happy to talk. Students had clearly thought about questions and answers beforehand.'

'AMAZING! They should be proud. Even though they were nervous they all did so well. Students showed a great level of self awareness'.

'Fabulous! Students were so self aware, confident and chatty. A real pleasure to talk to and a credit to the school!'

'Lots of students are involved in volunteering outside of school - very impressive'.

'Really impressed! Everyone was initially nervous but soon settled in. One student even had a plan A and a plan B!

'All pupils controlled their emotions and nerves very well which showed professionalism'.

'The students were more prepared and poised than I expected them to be. Several students surprised me with their responses - in a very positive way!'
