National Youth Parliament and Northumberland Cabinet elections

Date Published:

Yesterday, we celebrated the National Youth Parliament and Northumberland Cabinet elections with all of our students taking part in the election polls! We also offered the opportunity to take part in the Make your Mark vote, which allowed students to vote on topics that are important to them and that they would like to be discussed in Youth Parliament.

By taking part, our students were encouraged to use their democratic rights in the community they live in and supported to make an informed choice on the candidates they were voting for, including three Ashington Academy students who were running for either Parliament or Cabinet!

We also set up a sixth form polling station to demystify the voting process and provide a dry run for the upcoming General Election, which many of our NE6 students will be eligible to vote in. We had a fantastic time understanding and engaging in what it means to be an active citizen!
