Photography

This specialist course will be delivered in our new purpose-built art studio and will allow students to explore a range of digital and traditional photographic techniques and processes.

Students will be given the opportunity to investigate and respond to a variety of historical and contemporary sources through different lens-based media including photoshop and dark room development. Students will develop and expand their creative skills to produce a professional portfolio containing a large body of work, responding to a range of contextual sources and influences.

As students progress into Year 10, they will investigate the key skills and principles of photography including formal elements and rules of composition as well as developing key technical skills such as aperture and shutter speed. As they work towards producing their sustained project, they will experiment with a variety of techniques and processes in order to develop and expand their own creative ideas towards individual outcomes.

Students begin Year 11 with a mock exam, where they will have the choice of several starting points, of which they are to base their individual projects on. They will use artist influence, experimentation and image manipulation to produce individual outcomes with messages and meaning. From January, students begin preparation for their externally set assignment, each responding to a topic set by the examination board. During a 10-week preparation period, students will produce a body of work including investigations and experimentation using a range of relevant sources, resulting in a 10-hour exam.
